Burlington County College’s Health Information Technology, Electronic Health Record program is offering a free lecture on Meaningful Use of the Electronic Health Record

What is Meaningful Use?

Meaningful use is using certified electronic health record (EHR) technology to:

  • Improve quality, safety, efficiency, and reduce health disparities
  • Engage patients and family
  • Improve care coordination, and population and public health
  • Maintain privacy and security of patient health information

Ultimately, it is hoped that the meaningful use of certified EHR technology will result in:

  • Better clinical outcomes
  • Improved population health outcomes
  • Increased transparency and efficiency
  • Empowered individuals
  • More robust research data on health systems

Bala Thirumalainambi, the Meaningful Use Manager of NJ HITEC (New Jersey's Regional Extension Center), will be a guest lecturer at Burlington County College's Pemberton campus on May 9, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the William K. McDaniel IRLC (library), room 102. Mr. Thirumalainambi will discuss the HITECH requirements of Meaningful Use of the EHR from the providers' (physicians') perspective, including the requirements of Stage 1 Meaningful Use, the Medicare and Medicaid incentives for Meaningful Use, and how physicians attest to Meaningful Use.

This presentation provides an excellent overview of Stage 1 Meaningful Use in an easy to understand format with some practical advice on how to achieve Meaningful Use for physicians. A brief update on the proposed Stage 2 will also be discussed.

A question and answer session will immediately follow the presentation.
